I've wanted to make this entry since early December last year, but a relaxing Christmas vacation and school stuff prolonged my itching fingers from doing so. I first read a ‘People of my 2011’ entry when I was back-reading Bianca Gonzales’ blog. It was perfect timing when I’d like to post a yearly thing without the lengthy drama.
Meet the people who made me wiser, feel inspired, giggle like receiving a text from a cute guy, laugh while walking alone, and somewhat cry.
Meet the people of my 2011.
Bea delos Reyes
Bea is my college best friend. Funny how we’ve met…and we tell this to other people all the time. She was the first person I talked to in our block during LPEP (college orientation) and since then, we were inseparable. Last 2011, I had more downs than ups. She witnessed it all and never left. She listened to me over and over again about the same issues and untiringly shares her opinions. When everything’s messed up, a milk tea date with her is all I need.
Last term, I got my worst schedule so far! Imagine sleeping all day then go to class at 4:20pm, end at 9:10pm, and run to the LRT station to catch the last train. Also, my life was pretty boring because I don’t have break mates at all! In DLSU, you’ll find it weird that people are somehow connected, if not friends, to each other. I met Sam on one of my subjects. I didn't know he’s friends with Neil, and just like that, the three of us found ourselves hanging out.
They made it to this list because they are those few whom got scolded by my mother. KIDDING!! Let’s just say that in a short span of time, they’ve seen me at my best and lowest points, and still accept me for who I am. I should admit they made me realize that it’s all right to loosen up. NOKS!
Arielle Alvarado & Jess Clemente
These two ladies are friends for keeps. You’ll know what it feels like to have lifetime friends when you get to hang out with them. They are two of the people of my 2011 because last year, they basically taught me how to have lifetime friends -- be open and honest with what you feel, take a break from stress, be crazy and spontaneous at the same time, and never fear to take chances and try new things.
Donela Tan & Mica Restrivera
I know Donela ever since we’re frosh but never really had a chance to talk. We only began talking before the previous UAAP Judo Tournament where she’s a committee and I was in-charge to cover the event for The LaSallian. She doesn’t know this yet but funny how God can turn tables and send people in your life when you’re on that point where you already forgot to laugh. She’s one of the few people who can make me laugh effortlessly. We flood our followers’ timelines on Twitter with hilarious (sometimes green) sabaw hirits and giggle like a girl getting kilig over her crush, when in fact we’re just controlling ourselves from laughing out loud and chose to fart it out!! Indeed, one of my favorite people last 2011. Very down to earth with angelic complexion BUT not-so-angelic humor (if you know what I meeeaaaann!!!).
PLOK. PLOK. Mica is my other tweetmate! HAHA. Back then, she looks familiar because I see her around campus. She looked more familiar when she competed during the UAAP Judo Tournament. And finally, our worlds met when Bloggers Congress 2 happened. We’re both surprised on how fast we got along and how small this world is. ;) I admire how she makes an ordinary day special by her unique trips and ideas. Also, she is my jibber jabber friend. Her thoughts are real fast, she’ll raise it while I’m in the middle of my story; but she’s funny that way! =)))
I remember this conversation between me and Donela in the dojo:
Donela: Paano mo nameet si Mica? Blockmate?
Me: Ay hindi. Sa USG.
Donela: Gaano na katagal?
Me: Ugh…*thinks and tries to remember because it felt like a long time* two weeks?
Donela: P*^@%& !&@?
Me: *shocked face also*
=)) Nath Tolentino
This is not bola (If you’re reading this, I mean it. I’m not making bola): Nath is one of my favorite people. She’s funny (her blonde moments, especially!), smart (yes, the blonde part is just pure acting) and, beautiful inside and out (she braids her hair neatly without too much effort). I’m so thankful that Bea introduced her to me. J We don’t see each other as often as freshmen year (I miss FILKOMU days!) but nothing changes whenever we get a chance to talk.
When I think about it, she opened a lot of doors for me. Nath is one of the very first people that encouraged me to get out of my shell in college (Read: signing up for The LaSallian). She might not be there physically all the time, but she knows her way to show support. She’s also the person who introduced me to some people I care/d about (if you know who I mean!! Hahaha!!). She’s in this list because I admire her for being strong despite the unfortunate events last 2011, for being honest to herself all the time, for being naturally graceful and for still keeping our friendship intact no matter how busy we are.
Darre Poblete, Jessy Go, Angela Joaquin
The MALDITEHS! J This crazy trio perfectly knows how to make me laugh. We weren’t able to bond that much last 2011 because of some stuff (Read: misunderstandings). But they’re still included here because they made me realize how important communication is, how boring life could be without crazy friends and that true friendship can be fixed no matter how messy it gets.
On a less serious note, Angela is here because we laugh at each other for no reason at all!! She’s one of those friends who can encourage me to stop studying and just laugh like crazy all day (Read: B.I. Hahaha!) Even if our friendship seems weird and sabaw, it’s real and that’s what makes it special! =)) YIHEEE CHEESY!! ;)
Noelle Estrada
Ellie is my groupmate in one of my majors. We’re not that close but she made it to this list because she inspires me. The reputations of marketing majors are airheads, lazy, chill people and other adjectives that are synonymous to walang kwenta. I am this (emphasis on this) close to believing it ‘til I worked with this powerhouse lady. J Her ideas are out of the box and she makes me appreciate our course more. Ellie is my batch mate but I look up to her as one of my inspirations to excel in our field.
Bianca Gonzalez
I can say that TV host Bianca Gonzales inspired me ever since I was in high school. That was the time when she’s still a MYX VJ and a host in Y-speak. As I read her blog starting from September 2003 up to the most recent, I love how she started out as a super girl wannabe to a fully transformed super girl as time went by. I see myself in her from the daily dose of caffeine, being energetic despite an hour of sleep, sticking to one hair stylist; the sense of achievement from keeping yourself busy juggling academics and work, to the love for kids and the belief that blogging is a stress-reliever. She’s part of my people of 2011 because I’ve always seen her as my inspiration on how I want to spend the remaining years of my college life and what/who I want to be in the future. I also want to be a super girl! But as of now, my status is a super girl wannabe (just like how any super girl started).
\ Miragrace Lazaro
You know that feeling when you can’t take it all and you feel like no one can understand? Your mind is clouded by negative thoughts but at the same time you’re trying to figure out how to calm yourself and think of a great pick-me upper…and then you realize you can’t do it alone and you need that person who knows you so well, that someone who you faced all the old school drama with –your childhood best friend.
In my case, I’ve been on that situation a couple of times last 2011. I was never confrontational and I tend to bottle up all my worries until I reach my limit. When I can’t take it anymore, Mira is one text away. She’s the only friend that can perfectly boost my confidence, and I find her perspectives so therapeutic. She gets me all the time. After I do all the depressing talk, she’ll always tell these wise and positive advices that make it feel like everything will be okay, or that no matter how hard my situation is, there’s something good out of it. I love her to bits! A friend like her should be kept forever!
Angel Bombarda
Angel and I are not really close. But she influenced me the most this 2011 without her knowing it (now she knows after reading this). I could say that her blog inspired me to go back to blogging (which is this site), to know that the dog days will soon be over and will someday be worth it, and to open your mind that there is so much to see in this world (when you know her personally, you can hear her voice inside your head, awkwardly narrating while reading her travel posts).
She’s one strong lady that I look up to. I love how independent she is, how comfortable she is when she’s alone (sometimes, I try to do this. There are days that I like the silence but there are also days that I feel so loner to the point that I feel like I don’t have friends. HAHA. Alone-moment fail! I’m weird like that. Sorry!), and how she bravely (if not totally fearless) insists to the world that she’s destined for greatness. I wish I can do that too (insist that I’m destined for greatness) because ever since high school, that was my mantra whenever I fail or whenever I’m scared to do something.
She’s the perfect example of a simple lady that you see around campus wearing a dress or just shirt and shorts, sabaw-looking(sorry, Angel! Hehe) student. But you’ll be surprised on her achievements and her thoughts that can change your perspective if you think life is a bore. J She spreads optimism on her own way. ;)
To the people of my 2011, I couldn’t say more but thank you! You all made me a better, well-rounded person. Here’s to another year full of adventure, love, inspiration and friendship. Cheers!
xoxo,
